As the Class of 2028 embarks on its high school journey, one standout football prospect is already making waves. Logan Brown, a 6-foot-1, 275-pound offensive lineman, is gearing up to play center for McDonogh High School. With a strong foundation from his middle school years and recognition as a top offensive performer at the All State Preps WE RUN THE STATE camp, Brown is poised to bring his skills and leadership to the next level. All State Preps has also had a chance to watch Brown play in actual games several times over the past year.
Brown plays the center position, and what he enjoys most is the opportunity to be a leader and protect his quarterback. "I enjoy having the opportunity to step up and be a leader and being able to protect the quarterback to make sure the play happens," he shares. Brown's role on the field goes beyond just snapping the ball; it's about setting the tone for the offensive line and ensuring that every play starts smoothly.
Football wasn't always a part of Brown's life, but he quickly fell in love with the game once he started playing. "It started as something I just did for fun, but I instantly fell in love with the game and discovered that I had the potential to be great," he revealed.
Like many young athletes, Brown has role models who inspire him. For him, that player is Jason Kelce, the renowned center for the Philadelphia Eagles. "A player I've always admired and liked is Jason Kelce. I love his story of being the underdog and working hard because of what he was given," Brown explains. Kelce's journey from being overlooked to becoming a key player in the NFL resonates with Brown, who values hard work and determination.
Entering his freshman season, Brown wants to establish himself as a serious competitor. "I want to work hard to be a serious competitor in high school. I know that if I start as a freshman, I'll be going up against upperclassmen with much more experience than me," he notes.
Balancing academics and athletics is a crucial aspect of high school life, and Brown plans to tackle this challenge with a disciplined approach. "I want to have a strict schedule using good time management to do well in sports and school without one affecting the other. I believe the first year is vital to forming a good work ethic and to not developing bad habits," he emphasizes.
Brown's most vital skills include his composure and adaptability on the field. "My strongest skills are being able to remain calm in stressful situations as well as quickly adapt and react to changes on the line and game," he says. These qualities will undoubtedly benefit his team as they face formidable opponents and unexpected challenges.
However, Brown is also aware that there is always room for improvement. He aims to foster better team cohesion by getting to know his teammates more deeply. "I would really like to take the time to learn more about each of my teammates and understand more about them so we can play cohesively. I don't think anyone will ever be done improving their skills. Every day, you should strive to improve yourself," he asserts.
Reflecting on his journey, Brown recalls a significant challenge he overcame early in his football career. "I joined a team when I was younger, and my coach said he needed a center. I said I could play whatever he needed, but I had only snapped a few times before that, so I had to practice hard to get snapping down, as it didn't come easy. I did up to 200 snaps a day to be able to play in this very competitive league. It ended up being one of the best opportunities to learn a valuable position," he recounts.
Looking ahead, Brown is excited about the future of high school football.
"I'm looking forward to the higher level of competition and speed of the game. I want to develop and work on myself to be able to play for a great college one day."
