Class of 2025 WR Milan Jernigan discusses visit to UConn

March 31, 20242 min read

Class of 2025 wide receiver Milan Jernigan was a factor for his Upper Darby High School football team in Pennsylvania during the 2023 season. Jernigan, a 5-foot-11, 170-pound prospect, accumulated over 1,500 all-purpose yards and caught 52 passes during his junior year. Jernigan was named one of the top performers at the All State Preps Winter Showcase back in February at the wide receiver position. He talked with All State Preps about his experience during an unofficial visit to UConn this past Saturday. Jernigan was on campus and had an opportunity to watch the Huskies football team practice.

"I had an opportunity to check out a (spring) practice and the first thing that jumped out to me was that very player wasn't 6-foot-2 or 6-foot-3," said Jernigan. "There were players that were between 5-foot-8 and 5-foot-10 that were competing at a high level." Seeing players that were around his size compete at a high level left him with a confident feeling about his chances about playing at the Division I level. "It game me encouragement and shows that you don't have to be a big guy to compete at the Division I level." Jernigan did admit that the speed of the game was a little faster than what he sees at the high school level. He did like what he saw from an offensive standpoint. "It was encouraging to see them throw the football a lot."

Jernigan did have an opportunity to talk with UConn wide receiver coach Kashif Moore during the visit. He says that Coach Moore talked to him about a number of things including expectations for playing the wide receiver position for UConn. Jernigan also received some feedback from Coach Moore as far as how he sees him as a prospect. "He loves how twitchy I am and likes my route-running and film," said Jernigan.

Before leaving the campus, Jernigan did get an opportunity to four the facility. He was able to tour both the indoor football practice facility and the campus, which left him impressed. "The indoor practice facility was amazing and I love that the campus is big," said Jernigan. "Everything is accessible and close. I wouldn't have to leave the campus for anything."

Jernigan plans to come back to UConn this summer for camp.

From The Coach

"I have been covering high school football and college football recruiting in the state of Pennsylvania and beyond for the past 17 years. My home base is in Pennsylvania, but I have traveled up and down the east coast to watch prospects. I played Division II football at Millersville University in Pennsylvania in the mid-to-late 1990's. I was one of the first people to use the internet to help athletes get exposure via articles and video."
