As the new school year dawns, Howard Holton Jr., a Class of 2028 athlete from Bishop McDevitt High School in Central Pennsylvania, is ready to make his mark on the high school football scene. Known for his versatility on the field, Holton brings a wealth of talent and a strong work ethic as he transitions from youth football to the high school level.
Versatility and Passion
Holton excels in multiple positions, including wide receiver and defensive back. His passion for these roles is evident in his approach to the game. "I love playing these positions because I studied and learned from different types of players. I put that knowledge into my craft. It's also beneficial to understand the position I'm going against," Holton said.
Family Inspiration
Holton's motivation to play football is deeply rooted in family. His father, who played at a high level, has significantly influenced his football journey. "My Dad played at a high level, and I've been watching him since I was in Pampers," Holton shared. .
Role Models and Goals
In addition to his father, Holton looks up to professional players like Deebo Samuel and Tyreek Hill. Their impact on his playing style is evident. For his freshman season, Holton has set ambitious goals. "If I don't start, I just want to contribute to a win week by week," he explained.
Balancing Academics and Athletics
Holton is committed to excelling both academically and athletically. He plans to approach his studies with the same dedication he applies to football. "I want to be the best, so I have to outwork the work in both subjects," Holton said.
Strengths and Areas for Growth
On the field, Holton's strengths include his ability to track the ball, his route running, and his moves after catching the ball. Despite his current skills, he recognizes the need for continuous improvement. "I can improve on everything because I'm not perfect, but I want to sharpen my routes and add more speed," he noted.
Overcoming Adversity
Holton's journey has included overcoming significant challenges. During his first year of midget football, he experienced a hamstring injury that sidelined him for the entire regular season. Reflecting on this setback, he said, "It hurt me. I never missed a game due to injury, so watching from the sideline crushed me."
Anticipating the High School Experience
As he prepares for high school football, Holton is excited about the new experiences that await him. "I'm looking forward to the wins, the packed stadium, and the game's speed. The whole package," he expressed.
Howard Holton Jr. is poised to earn some varsity reps this upcoming season for Bishop McDevitt. All State Preps will be keeping tabs on his journey.
