Chasing Dreams: Isaiah Davis Prepares for High School Football

September 03, 20242 min read

Isaiah Davis, a Class of 2028 wide receiver and cornerback, is gearing up to make an impact at Mt. Saint Joseph this upcoming season. Known for his love of running routes and catching passes, Davis has proven to be a versatile player willing to step into any role the team needs. "I will play wherever the team needs as long as I am on the field. That is how I started playing defense. I try to be a ball hawk," Davis says.

Davis says his explosive ability to make plays after the catch is his standout skill on the field. "My explosiveness and run-after-the-catch ability are my strongest skills," he says. However, he's determined to improve his route running and aggressive catching to elevate his game further. "I want to get better at route running and aggressive catching," Davis adds.

At one point, his resilience was tested when he overcame a high ankle sprain shortly after moving from Philly and joining the East Howard Jags youth football team. Being sidelined for four weeks was challenging, but it only fueled Davis' desire to return stronger. "I had to overcome a high ankle sprain after joining the East Howard Jags after I moved from Philly. I couldn't play for four weeks, and it killed me," Davis recalls.

His journey to the gridiron is by his father, a dedicated Steelers fan, and his admiration for Antonio Brown, who wasn't the most significant player but was often the best. "My dad is a huge Steelers fan, and I used to watch Antonio Brown. I used to wear number 84 as a kid. I wanted to be Antonio Brown," Davis recalls. He also draws inspiration from Zay Flowers, noting, "He has a similar build like me, and I think we play alike."

A memorable moment in his young career was scoring a touchdown in 12u football and receiving praise from former NFL wide receiver Torrey Smith.

"I once scored a touchdown in 12u, and Torrey Smith told me, 'Great catch'", said Davis. "I played for Level82 this year, a 7v7 travel program Coach Torrey runs."

As he prepares for his freshman season, Davis plans to focus on maintaining good grades and making the varsity team. "Good grades come first. After that, I want to make varsity, and if not, have a great JV season," he states. Balancing academics and athletics is his priority, and he has spent the summer honing his time management skills. "I have been practicing managing my time and having a detailed schedule this summer, asking my teachers and parents for help when needed," Davis explains.

With his freshman season already underway, Davis is eager to build relationships with new teammates and coaches while continuing to pursue his dreams.

"I look forward to playing with new teammates and coaches and continuing to chase my dream."

From The Coach

"I have been covering high school football and college football recruiting in the state of Pennsylvania and beyond for the past 17 years. My home base is in Pennsylvania, but I have traveled up and down the east coast to watch prospects. I played Division II football at Millersville University in Pennsylvania in the mid-to-late 1990's. I was one of the first people to use the internet to help athletes get exposure via articles and video."
